Pyrrha Design Goes Greener

All gold and silver jewelry in the Pyrrha collection now made with eco metals

Buyers of the wildly popular Pyrrha line can now wear their favourite pieces knowing that the metal used to create them is 100% reclaimed. The move is a conscious effort on the part of the designers and owners Danielle Wilmore and Wade Papin to lessen the environmental damage that comes from mining for these precious metals.

Wearers of Pyrrha are drawn to the line by the symbolic nature of the 19th century wax seals that are cast to create their unique pendants, rings, earrings and bracelets. Wilmore and Papin have spent years researching the meanings behind their historic finds. Eagle wings, dragons, and gryphons for example are a symbol of bravery, butterflies symbolize the soul, and anchors symbolize hope. With over 200 seals in the collection, wearers can easily find a piece that is perfectly suited to their personality.

OTTAWA MAGAZINE - TREND WATCHER

Calgary based designer Karen Konzuk was recently featured in Ottawa Magazine's June 2008 issue. This "Big Bling" stainless steel cuff with enamel detail work, is part of an extensive collection found at both Magpie Jewellery stores.

SPAO - School of the Photographic Arts: Ottawa - Point of Sale Competition

Point of Sale is an exhibition of photographic works, which merge art and retail strategies. Graphic designer Valerie Yobe of Cheekita has lead the SPAO Portfolio Program's Level 2 students in a project for commercial clients Magpie Jewellery and Paper Papier. The resulting works are metaphors for the mercantile experience. They pose and respond to questions and issues with visual symbols and new icons, while promoting, destabalizing, engaging and bringing the client to a new level of visual communication. (link)

Sarah Kirwan and Sarah Fisher, winners of this competition, were invited to showcase their creations in our Bank St. location.
