What type of payment do you accept?

We gladly accept Cash, Visa, American Express, MasterCard and Gift Certificates for in store purchases. For online purchases we accept Visa, American Express and MasterCard.

How do I purchase an item online?

I saw a piece in your store, but it isn’t on your website. Can I still purchase it online?

Simply fill in our Contact page with with your request. You should receive a reply within 24 hours.

I purchased a pair of earrings, but I lost one. Can I special order a single earring?

Certain designers are able to send us a single earring depending on certain factors. If the earring is one of a kind, it is harder to duplicate the piece. Inquire at store level with the earring in question for definite possibilities.

Why can’t I find prices for your gold and platinum rings online?

The price of gold and platinum fluctuates regularly. You can request an updated price by filling in the Contact page or inquiring at store level.

Can stainless steel be sized?

No. If you have purchased a stainless steel ring and you need a different size, we would have to order a new size for you.

Why can’t I purchase Pandora Jewelry online?

Due to our licensing agreement with Pandora Jewelry, sales are limited to in store purchases. We do have a collection of Pandora Jewelry on our website to help customers get an idea of what they might like on their bracelets. To view the entire Pandora collection, which we carry in both our stores, please visit http://www.pandora-jewelry.com. Here you can create virtual bracelets, saving you time when you actually visit our stores.

I would like to work at one of your stores? How can I apply?

You can visit either one of our stores at 799 Bank St. or on the 2nd floor of the Rideau Centre (beside the Second Cup). Visit our Career Opportunities page for more information on what we look for when hiring.

I’m celebrating a special occasion (wedding, baby, birthday, anniversary, etc) and would like to create a registry at one of your stores. How can I do that?

You can visit one of our stores and create a “Wish List”. This list will be saved under your name and can be accessed by friends and family. It will show what has been purchased already and what is left on the list. This is also a great idea for Christmas, but be sure to start it early, for our stock sells quickly at this time of year.

Do you have catalogues of the jewellery you carry?

We carry a selection of designer’s catalogues. This helps with ordering multiple pieces with slight variations (for a bridal party) or if you would like to see a particular designer’s full collection. Many designers also have catalogues on their website. You can view some designer’s websites on their Magpie Jewellery webpages (for example: Mimi & Marge) or inquire at store level for more information.

Do you have Magpie Jewellery stores outside of Ottawa?

Magpie Jewellery is exclusively found in Ottawa. We appreciate all the requests to open a store in different cities! Our loyal customer base will be the first to know if another store ever opens.

How can I get updates about Magpie’s events, promotions and new stock?

You can visit our News & Events page, which is updated frequently. You can sign up for our newsletter, which contains information about designers, events, gift ideas and seasonal trends. If you have a Facebook account, you can become a Friend and Fan of Magpie Jewellery, and see what we’re up to quickly and conveniently.

Why can’t I try earrings on in your stores?

For hygiene reasons we do not alloy customers to try earrings on. We do however encourage our customers to hold earrings up to their ears and enjoy our many mirrors.

I bought a silver ring/earrings/necklace and the metal seems to be changing colour. Why is that?

Sterling silver will naturally oxidize when exposed to air. You can prevent this by keeping your silver jewellery in small plastic bags. You can also polish silver jewellery with a cleaning cream or a polishing cloth (which we sell). For matte finish jewellery, you can make a paste from baking soda and water, and clean by rubbing with fingers or an old toothbrush. For Pandora bracelets, we recommend bringing them to our Glebe store to be cleaned in our tumbler, free of charge.

Do you repair jewellery? How long does it usually take?

We have out of shop metal-smiths who do a variety of repairs for us. Usually repairs can take approximately 2-4 weeks. A few things can affect the waiting time, including the time of year (Christmas is an EXTREMELY busy time for us), how complicated the piece is and/or if stones are involved. We encourage you to visit one of our stores with the piece, and one of our helpful sales associates can place an inquiry. This will determine the time and cost involved. You can then decide to go ahead with the repair or not.

I would like to create a custom piece. What are the steps involved? What can I expect in cost?

Each custom piece is created to suit your individual taste and needs. We work with our customers and their budget to create something special. I would like to place a special order. How long will it take?

Most designers require approximately 4-6 weeks for special orders, though some may take longer; for example Teno may take upwards of 6 weeks, whereas Pandora Match can sometimes take months. If you are working with a deadline (party, wedding, prom), please inquire at one of our stores about wait times before considering a specific piece. Once again the time of year can affect the wait time for orders (especially around Christmas) so please keep this in mind.

Can I talk to your goldsmith about my custom piece?

Our goldsmith is very busy and works in a shop that is not suitable for outside clientele. This is why we diligently train our staff to be knowledgeable and comfortable when helping our customers create our custom jewellery. If there are further specifics you would like to discuss, you can make an appointment with our registered gemologist and owner, Martin Wright.

I would like to have a ring sized. How much would this cost?

For plain bands, sizing starts at $45.00 and for rings with stones, the starting point is $55.00. Certain factors like type of metal, stones, extra details, design and whether the sizing is up or down can affect the price. We can always get an estimate from our goldsmith or silversmith first, before going ahead with the sizing. If the ring was purchased at Magpie, the price of sizing is 50% off.

How can you tell if a ring fits properly?

This is a very personal choice. Some like their rings to fit looser, others like them tighter. Usually, you want some resistance on the knuckle, without feeling like its squeezing your finger. You also want to make sure that it fits securely and wouldn’t come off when moving your hand around. There are other factors that can affect how a ring feels; weather (hot=tighter fit, cold=looser fit), if you are retaining water, if you have been working out, if you are pregnant and/or the time of day (when walking around all day, your extremities can swell). We cater to these factors and encourage customers to try rings on with variations (width, style, size, etc…). This way our customers can purchase a piece that looks good and feels comfortable.
